Oh, you’re still here!
OK – this post tells you if you’re not mobile friendly you’re not even in the game.
It’s as simple as that.
On-page SEO: the importance of a mobile-friendly site (the final wake up call)
If you have got this far and still do not have a mobile-friendly site we advise you to stop right away, get on your phone to a developer and get yourself one.
Google tells you how to do it here.
It also says this:
“Mobile is changing the world.
Today, everyone has smartphones with them, constantly communicating and looking for information. In many countries, the number of smartphones has surpassed the number of personal computers.
Having a mobile-friendly website has become a critical part of having an online presence.
If you haven’t made your website mobile-friendly, you should.
The majority of users coming to your site are likely to be using a mobile device.”
What more can we add?
How about this:
- 94% of people with smartphones search for local information on them. (Source)
- 77% of mobile searches occur at home or at work (where there is likely to also be a desktop computer. (Source)
- 56% of consumer traffic to the leading US websites is now from mobile devices. (Source)
Having a mobile-friendly site pretty much topped the list of page level features not related to keywords in a Moz ranking factor survey of SEO experts (here).
Interestingly top SEO experts also believe that, despite Google’s Mobilegeddon update which penalised the ranking potential of sites that were not mobile-friendly only for mobile search results, not having a mobile-friendly site is also a ranking factor on its desktop results pages.
And supplement that with the effect of dropped traffic, bounced visits, low levels of customer engagement, low page visits from any mobile customers that do find you and you are dealing a killer blow to your chances of SEO success.
If you are not mobile-friendly it really is time to ring the changes.
